Mechanics: Physical Realities

At least once per year, I get to fight my spine and/or hips on a sticking point. Mainly, that they would like to stick to a bizarre contortion and I would like them to be mobile. This week has been a doozy.

There are many possibilities for dealing with physical pain that isn’t attributable to illness or injury. You can medicate, schedule bodywork, ignore it, or be paralyzed by it. In the past, my tactics have been immediate and sometimes extreme. This time, I’ve taken a more gentle route.

It is a gift of this odd pandemic experience is that I have learned to give myself more space. I observe more and allow instinct to be more dominant. So, while I have had all the bodywork, I have also approached my wayward spine with curiosity. Why does it do this? What is this, even?

Those questions bring back into my body. Into the flow of my breath and into movement and sound. Always remembering that the body wants to function. And, remembering to allow it to tell me what is needed.

What are your physical realities today? How will you engage with them?
