Office Space: In-Person

Today, I entered my actual office for the first time since March. Some of you have been enjoying this privilege for a while and others are safely ensconced at home.

What strikes me is not the differences in the patterns in the office, although there are many. I am struck by how tight our body language has become, how impulses to touch are diverted, and how we dance around being in space together.

As the colder weather seeps in and we are pulled indoors again we may encounter more of this. Especially, those for which working outside of the home is the only choice.

My invitation to you in this:

  • Breathe as if you were unmasked.
  • Acknowledge the humans you encounter, with grace.
  • Where you can not actually use touch you can gesture.
  • Remember it is weird for everyone.
