Office Space: Re-Entry

This is a Monday – Friday blog because most people around here work a M-F job. So, one of the shifts in the blog format is to address this Monday re-entry to work by discussing office matters and conversations this week.

For our first offering, I’d love you to consider the re-entry itself. How do you prepare yourself and your voice for success?

It could be mechanical. Making sure you are fed, rested, hydrated, and warmed up before you start using your voice. Perhaps it can be mental. Preparing yourself for the scope of conversations and voice extensions that you will engage with this week.

I’d love you to consider beginning with the organizational. What does your schedule look like this week? How many hours of meetings, presentations, or discussions are scheduled? What is the likelihood that unscheduled but important speaking will pop up and when do those usually appear?

Looking ahead in this way allows you to see the trends and prepare for a Thursday of back-to-back Zoom calls with large groups followed by a client demo, for example. It can also be helpful as you go through the week to note if particular types of voice use are more draining than others so you can plan to prepare for and recharge from those.

I like to keep a voice journal to keep track of these things. Mine is analog but you can choose whatever medium you like. And, it can be as simple as noting how your voice felt and how many hours of use you had. Log any details that make sense for you and use the log to empower your voice use.

Have a great week!
