Observe: Wingspan

It seems that many people believe that their arms begin at the shoulder socket. They use their arms in this way and in doing so put a lot of stress on the shoulder.

The arm is actually like a wing with its most complete motion and strength coming from the structure and musculatures of the upper back and shoulder blades.

So today, I’d like you to think about how your shoulder blades work. How they support you in a plank or when you press into a wall, contracting towards each other and downward. If you spend a lot of time sitting, you may not be able to activate these muscles when you first start trying.

Keep at it, the quality of your movement as you age depends upon it.
