Disrupt: Madness

Madness is doing the same thing and expecting different results. - Albert Einstein
Holidays can be madness. You get together over the same meals, sometimes in the same location, and often having the same conversations. We are all very well-rehearsed in our roles for these conversations. Further, many of us know and dread what is coming.
Perhaps hearing a hurtful comment or bias-laden diatribe is unavoidable at your Thanksgiving but, your response can be disrupted.
To stop a pattern, interrupt it.
When conversations follow a pattern, you have some control because you can prepare. I don't mean rehearsing clever retorts, or stinging comebacks. I mean responses that disrupt the moment. Choose to be clear, rather than just being "right."
Tomorrow we will work through some scenarios and strategies for doing just that.
