Articulate: Means to An End

When we are discussing mental processes, as we have this week on the blog, it is easy to sound enigmatic. Thoughts, intentions, and attention can seem like intangibles.

For our purposes, it can be helpful to focus on the tangibles. How it feels to breathe -- the entire gesture of inhalation and breath use. The sensations of rib expansion and abdominal muscle support. Articulation of language or how the lips, teeth, and tongue move to clarify patterns in sound.

There are more tangible movements that can be observed and directed in voicing of course. But, today we are focused on why we use the voice. It is simply the most effective and efficient way to direct verbal and subverbal communication in a room. The voice is the method by which we can affect our presence and purpose.

What we are trying to communicate is the real point. And, in the end, it is what we need to remember most clearly.

  • What is your point?
  • What do you need to happen?
  • What does this audience need to hear?

If you can answer those questions with Insight, Intention, and Integrity that is the whole ballgame.
