Articulate: Need

When there is concerning public news (for example, a pandemic with uncertain ramifications in the offing) it is easy to either ignore it or go into a full spin. The fact is that sometimes we need to believe either that we are ready for the unthinkable, or that it couldn't happen to us.

Need is interesting. It is concerned with maintaining equilibrium and is closely related to your perceptions. For that reason alone there is nothing inherently right or wrong about how you are feeling. There are very good reasons to engage with your needs and any potential emotional intensifying of those needs you may be experiencing. If only so that your decisions are fact-based rather than reactive.

For some writing it all down is a great tool. I do that as well but, I am also a BIG fan of voicing out loud. Speaking about needs -- either to yourself or to others -- clarifies your thinking and reinforces for your brain that you are actively monitoring your safety. Our neurology works much better in the light of awareness.

So, what do you need right now? Be sure to tell someone.
