Office Space: Making Contact

January 25, 2021

I am always amused when I get an overly-familiar email, LinkedIn request, or cold call.

It isn't that people are attempting to connect with me but that they seem unclear about why they want to do so. One assumes some criteria has identified me as a potential client or beneficial connection. Still, these attempts rarely get my attention at all.

The fact is that some are altogether less interested than they should be about the people, and way too cynical about the process.

The invitation this week applies to all forms of communication but especially if you are reaching out to speak with someone you do not know. Take a moment to find out who they are. What is their business about? Who do they serve? And, anything else relevant to your ask.

There is a wealth of information out there about all of us. Start your communications by respecting the people, no apologies, just respect. Then, be clear about why you wanted their attention in the first place.
