Office Space: (Un)Set Yourself Up (for Success)

Humans are masters of finding a way to do the same things in the same ways over and over again. We call it a process or a framework. And, they sometimes help us to meet standards and/or stay organized.

We develop scripts for things we say all the time. Either for things that we don't want to miss or to standardize conversation. This may work for call centers but it isn't communication.

The invitation today is to observe those things you say repeatedly. The phrases that you come back to all the time. The turns of phrase or idioms that you recognize as part of your style. Observe them and question them. Are they quirks of your personality? Or, are they barriers to listening and connecting to the conversation before you?

A second invitation. Having identified one of these speech habits, could you change it? Shake it up.
