Variance: Congruence

Humans expect congruence in the voice user. In those very first seconds of contact, they decide whether this sound and this person are in alignment. They grant or deny authority. Sadly, sometimes they grant or deny humanity.

This is a blog about how voices enter rooms. Except that voices don't enter rooms as separate entities from the humans that are trying to communicate. And humans don't always enter spaces that are safe for them. This is where voice performance crashes into the psycho-social realities of these times.

This country has some serious problems that cannot be fixed through voice alone. Still, I return to congruence. Humans desire it because we all -- at a base level before politics, biases, and pain -- desire harmony with other humans. We seek it subconsciously as they speak. Even in the midst of the chaos of this moment, we still seek it.

This is the glimmer of hope I hold to on this grey, Boston morning. The hope I hold for this very flawed country of mine.
