In the Buddhist teaching, Upajjhatthana Sutta, there are five remembrances for contemplation. The one I…
You know those things you tell yourself, about yourself?
Your doubts, your fears, your limitations.
The things you claim competence in, but where you aren’t quite there. The little stories you craft around yourself.
Swinging from underestimating yourself, to overcompensating, sometimes wildly.
There is a better way. A truer way.
Make a list today. A list of absolutely all of your qualifications, gifts, loves, all the of the most interesting and compelling things about you. This list will be hard to make, but do not stop until you have 20-40 items with at least half of them relating to your competencies at work. Any skills will do.
Then really look at the list, at the real you, which is neither as limited as you think nor in need of a coat of false positive thinking. You are magnificent and uniquely yourself.
If you are truly unable to actually get things down or if looking at your accomplishments and abilities doesn’t move you at all, you may need more support. And, you should get it because we, ALL OF US, deserve to stand in our strengths and know ourselves.
Time to get real.
