Getting back up

I fell today.
I tripped on an oddly designed sidewalk (a complete safety hazard, Boston!) and epicly sprained my ankle as I was thrown forward like a bird failing to attain flight.  To say that it lacked grace is a complete understatement.  To Boston’s credit, several people stopped to see if I was okay.  One woman, in particular, offered her hand to help me up to which I responded, “thank you but I just need to sit here a minute.”
Many jokes were made.  Another person took pictures of the sidewalk as he tripped there yesterday.  Six strangers came together for a moment and once I was up we dispersed into our days.  I got up.  So did that guy from yesterday.
Now as I have assessed the actual damage, including the injured pride, I am struck by six strangers coming together for a moment to help a woman get back up.
The world is a scary place.  It is nice to know that I can still get back up, even if I need to sit there a minute.  Even nicer to know that I don’t have to do it alone.
Neither do you.
